Edrik,
Those L-pads won't work like the original 50 ohm linear controls. The L-pad might have a total of 30 ohms, so it won't have the range of the original. I have been looking for these on the "net" and haven't really found one. I did find some at $21. ea, but that is no bargain. I think you should try to clean them with chemical spray, with a little lube (very little). I cleaned mine, and they are fine.

I just got a reply from Bill Hanuschak of Great Plains saying he does not have parts for the crossover. Similarly he does not have replacement crossovers.
I also took a closer look at the l-pads on partsexpress and madisound and noted that they are too big in terms of diameter. The only way to make these fit is to make new faceplates for the crossoever.
I really hope cleaning the originals work!

i've been doing a lot of searching on the net for smaller l-pads as the ones in partsexpress are 1.5" diameter while those in my crossover are 3/4". however, in terms of pictures i saw in partsexpress, my controls look more like potentiometers than l-pads. even the size looks about right. what's the difference? are these controls l-pads or potentiometers? if they are the latter, then what are the specs? PLEASE HELP!

Edrik,
Richard is 100% correct. Those are not L-Pads. They are definatly linear taper pots (potentiometers). Try looking for product listings from Bournes, Ohmite or Clarostat. In many of these product lines they even offer snap in shaft options so you can have an exact replacement fit. If you look on the back cover of the pot, there is usually a number stamped or printed that you could use to crossreference between manufactures if not the original part. Over the years needs have dropped for the higher wattage parts because of so many low power applications in the electronics industry. Give the number lookup a spin.

Edrik,
Did you try the spray yet? These controls are a very simple device; just a wire wound coil and a sliding metal contact. There is really nothing to wear out, but they do get dirty right at the one single spot that you need. I am sure that you can clean them as good as new.
I have modified my crossovers to not use the original controls (very similar to the model 19 - but without adjustable controls). My controls are out of the circuit, and only used for holding the knobs on (looks much better, as they show thru the grill cloth).

what kind of chemical spray do you recommend (brand, specific content, etc)?
anyway, when i acquired my model 14's last march, i did not really notice that the controls were not working. i was driving them with a scott 299d and the combination was sweet to my ears. however, about 2 months ago, i decided to switch to a 10Y/VT-25 SET amp. this new amp, which is more detailed and articulate, began to reveal the weaknesses in my system, including the mismatch of the woofer and horn levels of the model 14's. that's when i discovered that the controls did not work. again, talk about being clueless.

the numbers on the back are 7924 47-05-122241-01 137
i read somewhere that 137 is the manufacturer's code for CTS Corp but the other numbers do not seem to turn up anything on the CTS website.
in the meantime, i will try searching on the net using the other numbers.
